    • Read pages 4-5 of "The Things They Carried," underlining any words or phrases that reflect non-physical "things they carried."
      • Answer the 6 multiple-choice comprehension questions, focusing on the following skills: vocabulary in context, conflicts, cause and effects, inferences.
    • For Friday, spelling test on Commonly Misspelled Words. Have a parent/adult give you a practice test on the 20 spelling words. Then have him or her sign it.

  • Homework - After reviewing the 4 sections of the story, The Things They Carried, choose ONE of the short essay questions. On looseleaf paper, write your 5-sentence response, using specific details to support your answer.
    • Reminder -- Use the short essay's 5-sentence structure:
      • Sentence 1 – Answer the question.
      • Sentence 2 – Present your 1st reason, and explain it.
      • Sentence 3 – Transition to 2nd reason, and explain it.
      • Sentence 4 – Transition to 3rd reason, and explain it.
      • Sentence 5 – Conclusion – Explain how these 3 reasons support your answer to the question.
